NOCO vs GOOLOO Jump Starters: Which Should You Buy?

NOCO or GOOLOO? Choose NOCO for the longer review record and more detailed specs; choose GOOLOO for bigger engine ratings per dollar, a GT4000S that recharges faster than the GB40, and a longer warranty. NOCO’s GB40 is the most-cited pick across the roundups we read. GOOLOO’s GT4000S and GT6000 are Outdoor Life’s and Car and Driver’s picks for trucks and large engines.

In detail

Who each one suits

Engine ratings, amps and capacities are each brand’s own figures; third-party test results are credited by name. We did not bench-test these units.

Best NOCO for most cars#1

NOCO Boost Plus GB40

The GB40 is the jump starter most of the big review roundups keep coming back to: The Drive names it best overall, Outdoor Life its best all-weather pick and Car and Driver its most compact. It is small enough for a glovebox, and NOCO rates it for gas engines up to 6.0 liters, which covers most cars, crossovers and many V8 SUVs.

Why it stands out

  • NOCO rates it at 1,000 peak amps for gas engines to 6.0L and diesel to 3.0L, with up to 20 jump starts per charge (brand figures).
  • Spark-proof clamps and reverse-polarity protection: if you mix up the clamps, an error light shows and it will not boost (per NOCO’s user guide).
  • IP65 with the ports closed, a built-in LED light and a USB output for charging a phone.
Engine ratingGas to 6.0L, diesel to 3.0L
Peak amps1,000A (brand-stated)
BatteryLithium-ion, 24 Wh
Weight2.45 lb
ExtrasIP65 (ports closed), USB out, LED light

Good fit if

  • You drive a car, small SUV or gas pickup up to about 6 liters.
  • You want something that lives in the glovebox or door pocket.
  • You value a brand with a long track record over the biggest amp number.

Skip it if

  • You drive a diesel bigger than 3.0L — look at the GB70 or GBX155.
  • You want a pack that doubles as a large power bank — at 24 Wh it is small.

Car and Driver found the 24 Wh battery is the GB40’s trade-off: one jump used a noticeable share of its charge. Top it up after every use.

Best GOOLOO for most drivers#2

GOOLOO GT4000S

GOOLOO’s GT4000S is the value route to big-engine ratings. GOOLOO lists it for gas engines up to 12.0 liters and diesel up to 10.0 liters at a Mid-range price, and Outdoor Life names it best for diesel trucks. It recharges quickly over a 100W two-way USB-C port, and it has a screen that shows the remaining charge.

Why it stands out

  • GOOLOO rates it at 4,000 peak amps for gas to 12.0L and diesel to 10.0L (brand-stated).
  • 100W two-way USB-C: GOOLOO says a full recharge takes about 1.2 hours.
  • IP65, an LCD screen and GOOLOO’s warranty of up to 30 months.
Engine ratingGas to 12.0L, diesel to 10.0L
Peak amps4,000A (brand-stated)
BatteryLithium polymer
WeightNot listed by brand
ExtrasIP65, 100W two-way USB-C, LCD screen

Good fit if

  • You drive a diesel pickup and want a high rating without a Premium price.
  • You like seeing the exact charge level instead of four LEDs.

Skip it if

  • You want the longest-established brand — NOCO has the longer review history.
  • You need it to be compact — the GB40 is smaller.

Some Amazon listings for this product show the older GT4000 name. Check that the listing title says GT4000S before you buy.

Best NOCO for big diesels#3

NOCO Boost X GBX155

NOCO’s GBX155 is the heavy-hitter in this list: the brand rates it for gas engines up to 10.0 liters and diesel up to 8.0 liters. Road & Track and Autoweek call it the most powerful pack they reviewed, TechGearLab names it best for big engines, and Popular Science lists it as its splurge pick.

Why it stands out

  • NOCO rates it at 4,250 peak amps for gas to 10.0L and diesel to 8.0L (brand-stated).
  • 99 Wh lithium battery with a 60W USB-C output, so it also charges a laptop.
  • IP65, with the spark-proof and reverse-polarity protection of the Boost line.
Engine ratingGas to 10.0L, diesel to 8.0L
Peak amps4,250A (brand-stated)
BatteryLithium-ion, 99 Wh
WeightAbout 5.8 lb
ExtrasIP65, 60W USB-C out, LED light

Good fit if

  • You drive a heavy-duty diesel pickup such as a 6.7L Power Stroke or Cummins.
  • You work on trucks, farm equipment or fleets and want one pack for all of them.

Skip it if

  • Your vehicles use 24V systems (common on loaders and heavy equipment) — this is a 12V pack.
  • You drive an ordinary car — you would be paying Premium prices for capacity you never use.

The GBX155 is just under the 100 Wh line that the FAA uses for spare lithium batteries in carry-on bags. That does not mean an airline will accept it; ask the airline before you fly.

GOOLOO GP2000

The GP2000 is the most jump starter for the least money in this guide. GOOLOO rates it for gas engines up to 8.0 liters and diesel up to 6.0 liters, it weighs about 1.2 lb, and TechGearLab names it the best bang for the buck. The trade-off is fewer published specs than the bigger brands.

Why it stands out

  • GOOLOO rates it at 2,000 peak amps for gas to 8.0L and diesel to 6.0L (brand-stated).
  • About 1.2 lb, with two USB outputs and an LED light.
  • GOOLOO’s warranty of up to 30 months.
Engine ratingGas to 8.0L, diesel to 6.0L
Peak amps2,000A (brand-stated)
BatteryLithium
Weight1.2 lb
ExtrasTwo USB outputs, LED light

Good fit if

  • You want an emergency pack for a car or SUV at a Budget price.
  • You are buying several, one for each family car.

Skip it if

  • You want a published capacity and IP rating — GOOLOO’s US page lists neither.
  • You live somewhere very cold — GOOLOO’s own page gives two different temperature ranges.
Also worth a look

GOOLOO GT6000

The GT6000 is GOOLOO’s bigger pack. GOOLOO says it covers all 12V gas engines and diesel up to 12.0 liters, and Car and Driver picks it as best for large engines. It is a good fit if you want one pack for a heavy-duty truck, a tractor and the family car.

Why it stands out

  • GOOLOO rates it at 6,000 peak amps, all 12V gas engines and diesel to 12.0L (brand-stated).
  • 27,000 mAh battery with 100W USB-C in and out; GOOLOO says 0–100% in about 1.4 hours.
  • IP65, LCD screen and a 15V DC output.
Engine ratingAll 12V gas, diesel to 12.0L
Peak amps6,000A (brand-stated)
BatteryLithium polymer, 27,000 mAh
Weight4.44 lb
ExtrasIP65, 100W two-way USB-C, LCD screen

Good fit if

  • You run several vehicles, including a big diesel.
  • You want a fast-recharging pack that also charges a laptop.

Skip it if

  • Your vehicle is a normal car — the GP2000 or GB40 is lighter and cheaper.
  • You need a 24V mode — GOOLOO says its jump starters work on 12V batteries only.

Still torn?

For an ordinary car, either brand’s compact pack will do. Pick NOCO for track record, GOOLOO for value.

Tips

Three things that make the difference

01

Compare engine ratings, not amps

NOCO and GOOLOO both quote peak amps, which Clore says have no shared definition. The gas and diesel ratings are the fairer comparison.

02

Check the exact model name

GOOLOO sells close relatives such as the GT4000 and GT4000S. Make sure the listing title matches the model you want.

03

Read the warranty terms

GOOLOO’s policy lists 18+6+6 months for the original purchaser and a 30-day return window on its own store. NOCO lists a one-year limited warranty.

Honest note

Neither brand’s peak-amp figure is a measured, comparable number. A 6,000A GOOLOO is not six times a 1,000A NOCO; compare the engine ratings, and remember the ratings themselves are the brands’ own claims.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Is NOCO better than GOOLOO?

It depends on what you value. NOCO has the longer review record and publishes detailed manuals with clear temperature and charging figures. GOOLOO offers higher engine ratings per dollar, faster USB-C recharging and up to 30 months of warranty. For most cars, either brand’s compact pack does the job.

Why are GOOLOO peak amps so much higher than NOCO’s?

Because peak amps are not measured the same way by every brand. Clore says the figure has no industry-agreed definition. Compare the engine ratings instead: the NOCO GB70 and GOOLOO GP2000 are both rated to 8.0L gas and 6.0L diesel.

Which is better for diesel trucks, NOCO or GOOLOO?

NOCO’s GBX155 is the reviewers’ big-engine favorite, rated to 8.0L diesel. GOOLOO’s GT4000S and GT6000 carry higher diesel ratings at Mid-range prices. See our diesel truck picks for the full comparison.

Which has the better warranty?

GOOLOO, on paper: it advertises up to 30 months, listed as 18+6+6 months for the original purchaser. NOCO lists a one-year limited warranty on the GB20, GB40 and GB70.

Are NOCO and GOOLOO jump starters safe?

NOCO describes spark-proof and reverse-polarity protection on the GB40, says it will not boost until reversed clamps are corrected, and warns that manual override disables both protections. GOOLOO lists “10-layer SUPERSAFE protection” in one place and “8 protection features” in its FAQ for the GP4000, and describes over-start protection after repeated attempts.

NOCO GB40 or GOOLOO GP2000?

The GP2000 has the higher engine rating (8.0L gas vs 6.0L) at a lower tier. The GB40 has an IP65 rating, a published capacity and the stronger review record. For a small car either works; for a V8 or mid-size diesel, the GP2000’s rating gives more headroom.
